It’s Star Wars Month! Unlike last year when the offerings were as flat as Bantha tracks, we’ve got a line-up packed tighter than an Imperial Cruiser (just without the cruiser yet, don’t get your hopes up).
But while you’re stacking up your red Troopers, black Troopers, and grunge Troopers… not to mention scooping the market for Star Wars collectibles that you’re more interested in burning than buying, there are some things I want to draw your attention to that you Stormtroopers shouldn’t miss.
Giant-Sized Wacky Races #1 (Veve Comics)
This one should be bought for the covers, even if the whole racing genre comic is a bit niche. I know that the cartoon Wacky Races is before a lot of us Gen X folks remember, but we did all grow up with Laff-A-Lympics, which was a part of the Saturday morning cartoon line-up. The covers of this comic feature iconic Hanna Barbera characters, including Captain Caveman, a personal favorite of mine when I was a kid. I’m surprised this comic isn’t doing better than it is; it may be an homage comic, but it is still the first time that Hanna Barbera characters have appeared on the platform, so I have added one to my collection.
2025 Free Comic Book Day Collection (Veve Comics)
Yes, you can get the free version for reading on the go, and that’s always a good thing… but these five comics in the “Limited Edition” format are only $2.99 and each one counts as a set. Getting all five not only gets you plenty of light reading material, but low-cost one-time set bonuses. Just go to the search and start listing “Free Comic Book Day 2025” to pick up the titles. Frankly, I can’t afford to go chasing comic sets, so these are a total win for us little guys. Besides, you never know, you may also get a great mint to go with your MCP!
Be Like Rak: The Bargain Hunter’s Play
There are a lot of good drops this time at a price point that even keeps this uncommon collector happy. But if you’re short on gems and going for the Animated Grogu would clean you out, play the long game! While everyone’s busy watching the kid, you could be getting that Ultra Rare Luke for the same price. Or, if you are more about getting several pieces to flesh out a Star Wars scene, you can get a Rare Luke + a TIE Fighter + an X-wing from the marketplace and still have gems left for a helmet or a comic. If you’re really strapped, many of the new Stormtroopers are going for just two or three gems! Even if you’ve just got your starting ten gems to play with, you can still manage to get three or four pieces to play in AR or in the VeVeVerse.
Whether you mix and match or go for every drop, don’t forget to buy what you like so you’re never disappointed about what you got, and always know when to close those blast doors!
Happy adventuring, space pirates!
